Presentation of results of the HMRT research project

Presentation of results of the HMRT research project through a full-scale safety exercise carried out in the Votonosi road tunnel of EGNATIA ODOS S.A. on December 1, 2021

Research outcomes of the H.M.R.T research project

Road tunnels are multiplying at a particularly fast rate in recent years in the Greek road network. According to the latest studies, Chora is now ranked in the first 5 places in Europe in the number of road tunnels that exceed 500m. The vast majority of Greek tunnels have been built within the last fifteen years with the most modern safety systems and specifications. Despite the fact that the safety of tunnels has increased significantly due to modern construction requirements, users' knowledge of driving in tunnels still falls short of what is desired.

In the context of the H.M.R.T research program carried out with the partnership of National Technical University of Athens, EGNATIA ODOS SA, NCSR-Dimokritos, University of Ioannina and TEKMON GEOMATICS with the Scientific Manager, the Associate Professor of the School of Mechanical Engineering, NTUA, Konstantinos Kirytopoulos, a wide research was carried out for the knowledge of road tunnel users of the Greek road network. In the NTUA team for the research of the knowledge of the users of road tunnels, the researchers Ms. Eleni Goumas, Dr. Panagiotis Ntzeremes and Dr. Georgios Chatzistelios had the main role. The data was collected between 01/10/2019 and 31/12/2019.

The research sample was 1402 Greek drivers, of which 1220 (87%) were male and 182 (13%) female drivers, with the largest percentage of respondents being between 26 and 55 years old (78.2%). Additionally, 148 (10.6%) professional drivers took part in the survey.

Working meeting of the TRiTON project teams from NTUA and Port of Volos S.A.

Working meeting with the Project Team of Volo's Port S.A. of the TRiTON project had Ms. Angeliki Deligianni, member of the TRiTON Project Team from NTUA, which is moving to the facilities of OLB S.A. in Volos on the dates from Thursday 04/11/2021 to Saturday 06/11/2021.

The purpose of the working meeting was the cooperation within the framework of TRiTON, and specifically the support of the web conference "Information of Agencies - Stakeholders on developments in the field of LNG Bunkering and the TRiTON project" held on 05/11/2021 and the evolution of the deliverable 6.1 of the EE6 working unit. Issues of deliverables 2.2 and 3.2 related to both the processes that make up the standard risk management plan for the design and operation of LNG facilities, and the organization of the operational memorandum for risk management were also discussed.

In addition, there was a guided tour by Ms. Deligiannis Angeliki from executives of the Port Authority of Volos S.A. at the facilities of the Port, as part of the deliverable 6.1. and in particular the formation of an opinion for the case study regarding:

  1. The design of the ship bunkering facility with LNG
  2. Evaluation of facility design investment options
  3. The possible operation of a mobile installation in the Port area
  4. And safety and security requirements

The tour took place in the commercial section of the port after a relevant permit using a special car of the port. There was a demonstration and explanation of the functionality of the premises, the piers and the elements of the facility, as well as the spare parts warehouse of the Port of Volos Organization, where the mode of operation and interconnection of the warehouse (end user) with the other functions of the port organization was explained.

This collaboration and tour was a unique experience...
