Academic Excellence at ME
The Metrotechnics Laboratory supports the teaching of a series of courses at the School of Mechanical Engineering of NTUA at the undergraduate level, as well as postgraduate courses in AthensMBA and other Master's Programs. Additionally, we actively support the NTUA's Centre of Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning (CCELL).
The Metrotechnics Laboratory actively supports the NTUA's newly founded Centre of Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning (CCELL). Its executives teach in major educational programs and manage the ISO 9001:2015 certification of the Centre.
Quality Management and Control: Theory, Practice and Tools
Quality Management is an essential tool for the growth and improvement of all organizations today. This program aims to train executives in quality assurance, management, and control. Learners will study the most prevalent industry standards, such as ISO 9001:2015, ISO 19011:2018, and ISO 31000:2018.
Learners will have acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to work as quality experts in private and/or public organizations, including (but not limited to) manufacturing firms, service firms, technical firms, software development, testing and calibration laboratories, etc., upon successful completion of the program. Learners will gain an understanding of quality, certification, and accreditation, and will have the opportunity to study the most prevalent industry standards, such as ISO 9001: 2015 (Quality Management), ISO 19011: 2018 (Conducting Audits), and ISO 31000: 2018 (Risk Management).

Organizational Training in Project & Risk Management
Project Management and Risk Management are key components of the modern Organizations and Businesses management process and are facilitators and promoters of their evolution and development. The program aims to train teams of personnel from Organizations and Businesses in Project Management and Risk Management.
After successful completion of the program, the trained teams will have acquired knowledge in methods, techniques and tools of project management and risk management that can be applied directly to their work environment. The main value of the program is that in each cycle of the program, personnel from a single Organization / Business participate so that the training is tailored to the needs of the Organization / Business and the personnel understand fully how they should operate / collaborate within the context of the Organization / Business they work for.
The trained teams will come into contact with concepts related to projects and risks in general, but also with specific practical techniques and software tools for project management (MS Project) and risk management, according to the most modern and internationally accepted standards of project management and risk management ISO 21502:2020 (Project Management), ISO 31000:2019 (Risk Management), PMI PMBOK® Guide.

The concepts of Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and Quality Management. Definition and dimensions of quality. International standards, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the ELOT EN ISO9001 standard.
Requirements of ELOT EN ISO9001
Operating framework, leadership, risk management (ISO31000), resources, and staff training.
Process Planning & Control
Process approach, capacity, statistical control, traceability, and non-conforming product control.
Evaluation & Certification
Performance evaluation, internal inspection procedures, and certification maintenance.
Statistics in Production
Distributions, probability theory, acceptance sampling, AQL, UQL, and preventive control.
The course is grounded in business research and decision theory, focusing on solving complex business problems using software. It heavily utilizes IT tools.
Business & Data Analytics
Introduction to modern decision support systems and business intelligence.
Data Warehousing
Enterprise Data Warehouses, multidimensional analysis, reporting, and visualization.
Quantitative Problem Solving
Linear programming, goal seeking, investment analysis, and network management.
Students participate in a game based on a realistic market situation. Teams compete representing the management of a specific business.
Simulation Mechanics
Decisions are coded into a computer program which evaluates consequences on operating results and cash position, accounting for competitors' actions.
Helps students gain knowledge in project management, aligned with international standards (ISO21502, PMBOK, ELOT1429).

Laboratory Practice
The lab covers 30% of course time, using special software to apply theoretical techniques.
An introductory course concerning the study, planning, and control of systems made up of people, materials, and equipment.
Core Philosophy
Prepares Mechanical Engineers to take responsibility for teams and systems. It outlines the peculiarities of management in relation to engineering sciences.
Introduces students to the concept of risk, how to analyze and manage it across project, process, and business levels.
Methodology
Systematic process of identifying, analyzing (qualitative and quantitative), dealing with, and monitoring risks.
Special Topics
Perception of risk (expectancy theory), crisis management, and rare events like black swans.
An introduction to Databases (DB), serving as a useful background for production planning (MRP) and ERP systems.
Database Design
Entity-Relationship (ERD) model and relational model conversion. DBMS Architecture.
SQL & Normalization
Analytical study of SQL, Addiction Theory, and Normal forms. Hands-on lab with a popular DBMS.

In-depth analysis of project management processes in light of national and internationally recognized standards (ISO21502, PMBOK, ELOT1429).
Core Skills & Tools
Time planning (Gantt, CPM, PERT), resource management, and sophisticated financial monitoring tools like Earned Value Management.
Agile & Portfolio
Separation of project, program, and portfolio concepts. Introduction to Agile Project Management (Agile PM) methods.
Introduces students to a customer-centric business environment where total quality and continuous improvement are prerequisites for success.
QMS & Risk Integration
Analyzes ISO 9001 requirements while placing special emphasis on the field of risk management through standard ISO31000:2018.
Basic principles, development, and control of Quality Management Systems, providing specifications and good practices.
Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to design, develop and maintain quality management systems in public organizations or private companies, regardless of industry. Emphasis on ISO 9001 and certification issues.
